1. When a mailbox move is not succesful or when an Exmerge fails on one mailbox, one of the reasons we consider is any corrupted items in the mailbox.
2. We might not be able to book a meeting request at a particular time even though that time shows Available.
3. Issues with Free busy for one Mailbox after running all the clean commands too.
4. You might not be able to open few mails or few attachments which are in the mailbox for some reason.
5. Outlook just hangs whenever it feels like or even wierd Sync issue mails.
6. Outlook acting as a human. Doing whatever it likes etc..
In situations like these, the most common reason would be corrupted items in the mailbox. Moving the mailbox succesfully doesn't help all the times in clearing the corrupted content. Creating a new user account and a new mailbox and export-import might also not help.
There is one solution which is little tedious and time consuming but would help for sureshot. I'm sure most of us might have guessed this solution. Below is the plan:
- Export the contents of the mailbox to multiple .pst files like one .pst file for Inbox, one .pst file for Sent Items, one .pst file for other folders etc.
- Create a new Mailbox for the user account.
- Import all the items to one folder at a time. Let us say for example Import only items to the Sent Items folder.
- Start working on the mailbox to see if the issue occurs. Here the symptom occurs or not.
- If not, import other folder say Items in the Inbox this time.
- Check if the symptom occurs.
- In this way, you would find out where the symptom starts and which folder items has corruption.
- Let us say, as soon as you imported mail items to Inbox from Inbox .pst file and you see the issue or symptom.
- This means the items in the Inbox has corrupted content.
- Let's say 4000 odd items are there in Inbox.
- Export all of them back.
- Import 2000 items at a time. How can you do this? Apply any logic you can think of as there are multiple ways to do the same.
- Find out those 2000 items in which you see the symptom occurring.
- Further divide and import say 500 at a time.
- Keep doing it until you see those 10 odd items which are causing the symptoms.
- Go ahead and shift-Delete them.
- Your mailbox would be free of corrupted items.
